Feb. 27th, 2011 04:38 pmI have tried this a few times, but never for long. I think it is very doable if one tries for a while and I want to learn this. I will count this as done once I hav successfully juggled with three balls for half a minute.
056: Complete a 5,000-piece puzzle
Feb. 27th, 2011 04:36 pmPuzzles are fun and I go up to 1,000 or 2,000 without much problems. But 5,000 sounds like a fun challenge. Only need to find out how to do that without the cats destroying everything.
055: Go kayaking
Feb. 27th, 2011 04:36 pmThere is a wonderful river right behind the house I live in. I want to go kayaking on it.
What's this about?
30 days without buying anything that isn't necessary - necessities are food and other utilities around the house, transportation and repairing or replacing things that broke.
Why do I want to do this?
It will help me become more aware of my spending.
How will I know when I've done this?
I will have gone for 30 days without purchasing anything that isn't covered in the above categories.
I'll record this here when I start and when I finish.

Monthly update: 2011-02
Feb. 27th, 2011 04:15 pmSo, the first month of my 101 in 1001 time is over. Unfortunately, it was an a bit more chaotic month than I would have liked. I had a car accident on February 15 which totalled my car and meant I spent a lot of time organizing getting a new one and assorted things.
None of my goals are completed yet and the list is still not completed, but I have some progress.
001: Keep a list of books I've read
I have added two more books (The Fall of Neskaya and Zandru's Forge, both by MZB) and one audiobook (A Long Way Down, by Nick Hornby) this month.
006: See three plays, a musical, a ballet, and an opera
We had tickets for a play last Friday, but unfortunately the play was cancelled 1 hour before it was due to start.
011: Donate 20€ 33 times
I donated 20€ to DayZeroProject, which seemed like a fitting start.
016: Squat 80% of my body weight and bench press 40% of my body weight
I am now pressing 20 kilograms, which is about 26% of my body weight. I deadlift 25 kilograms (33%) and probably squat about the same amount.
( Weight loss )
028: Earn 2,000 points on Stackoverflow
Up to 340 now.
030: Visit 3 countries
Tentatively planning to go to the US this summer. This all depends on whether the boy gets accepted into a summer school at Yale.
040: Hang up more pictures in the flat
I hung up a few pictures above my desk and a big calendar in the entrance. There are still a few more things on my list, though.
045: Read all Darkover books
Two read so far.

Jan. 30th, 2011 02:41 pmWhy do I want to do this?
While I can do the basics of cooking, I don't really do it all, mostly leaving it to the boy. I want to get better at it, though, and would like have someone teach it to me for at leats a few hours.
How will I know when I've done this?
I'll have completed a cooking course of at least 4 hours.
I'll record this with an entry.

048: Make 20 Kiva loans
Jan. 30th, 2011 11:17 amWhy do I want to do this?
I have made 16 Kiva loans so far and currently have about $130 outstanding credit there in 7 loans. Making 20 loans in 2.75 years won't cost me a lot, but it will keep me in the habit of reloaning the credit when I get it back.
How will I know when I've done this?
My Kiva portfolio will be at 36 loans.

I recently started doing yoga and I am enjoying it so far. I have already started to notice the first positive effects on flexibility and I want to take it further. I think Crane pose is a good long-term goal.
How will I know when I've done this?
Stay in Crane pose for 10 seconds.
I'll record this
You'll probably hear my screams of victory everywhere.

Chaostreffen are the regular meetings loosely associated with the Chaos Computer Club.
Why do I want to do this?
I would love to attend these meetings, but the only one close by is a monthly one in Hannover, which is already 60 kilometers away. Hence the need for one in Braunschweig.
How will I know when I've done this?
A meet-up with at least 5 people will have occured and a date for the next meet-up has been set.
I'll record this here.

Starting weight
Jan. 30th, 2011 10:24 amI am still not done with collecting all my goals, but I am going to start on Tuesday nonetheless.
To aid me with my three weight-related goals 016: Squat 80% of my body weight and bench press 40% of my body weight, 017: Get back down to 70 kilograms, 018: Get back down to 60 kilograms I weighed myself for my "starting weight" today.
77.6 kilograms. Not as bad as it could have been, but still the heaviest I have ever seen on the scale. My goal is to drop 1 kilogram per month, so for goal 17, that would be around September.
Squatting 80% of my current body weight would mean squatting ~62 kilograms and pressing 40% of my current body weight would be ~31 kilograms. I currently squat 24 kilograms and press 19 kilograms.

043: Buy three dresses
Jan. 16th, 2011 12:11 pmWhy do I want to do this?
I like wearing dresses 8and skirts), but so far I only have three, of which one is too short to wear around much :) and one will only fit me once my weight loss goals are well on their way.
How will I know when I've done this?
I will own three additional dresses that fit me and that I can wear outside.
I'll record this here, with pictures if possible :)

Would you believe that I am 26 and have never slept outside, under the stars? Only twice in a tent.
How will I know when I've done this?
One warm summer night, I will have slept somewhere outside with only a sleeping bag.
I'll record this here when done.

Jan. 16th, 2011 11:57 amWhat's this about?
I read about this on some blog. The prompt was: Throw all of the world’s countries in a hat and pick 10. Read a book on each country’s history.
Well, I used http://www.dartonmap.net/ instead and came up with these countries:

To learn more about other countries that you don't hear from so often (I threw Canada, the US, and Australia out of the list)

I will have read the aforementioned 10 books.
I'll record this every country in one post with what I found especially interesting.
